Melkkos

Description

A simple, comforting, and quick-to-make dessert or light meal, especially popular in winter. It's a creamy, warm milky porridge made with flour "crumbs" or small pasta, often flavoured with cinnamon.

Ingredients

  • 1 litre (4 cups) Full cream milk
  • 2.5ml (1/2 tsp) Salt
  • 60ml (4 tbsp) Cake flour
  • 60ml (4 tbsp) Butter, melted
  • Sugar to taste
  • Ground cinnamon for dusting

Instructions

  1. Bring the milk and salt to a gentle boil in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
  2. While the milk is heating, rub the cake flour and melted butter together between your fingertips in a small bowl until coarse, crumbly "crumbs" form.
  3. Once the milk is boiling, slowly sprinkle the flour and butter crumbs into the milk, stirring continuously with a whisk or wooden spoon.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, stirring frequently, for 5-10 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened to a porridge-like consistency and the flour is cooked through.
  5. Serve hot in bowls. Sprinkle generously with sugar and ground cinnamon.
